1961 Chevrolet Bel Air You Crank Car Turn Switch Allthe Way On Motor Spins

When you go to crank the car,turn the switch allthe way on ,then the motor spins over, but will not run until you let off of the switch!! Can you HELP ME ? Thank's David.

Check that the ballast resistor at the coil has not burnt out.
