Was having issues with ignition sometimes not turning over on first, second, or twentieth try. Researched possible causes and had a new ignition switch put in to fix the problem. Prior to doing this, everything (besides the ignition) worked flawlessly! Heat was hot and had me warm with a quickness in Michigan’s winter weather, my heated seats got hot- with equally impressive speed, my windshield wipers kind of gripped the windshield a bit, making that awful sound while in use (but worked every time they were needed none the less). But when I had the new ignition switch put it, the battery first had to be disconnected, which it was. Immediately after the new switch was put in and everything was put back the way it needed to, and my ignition problem seemed fixed (so far so good), this new problem popped up- there was no heat, wipers, or heated seats working anymore. Researching that issue, it led me into checking all the appropriate corresponding fuses (and even possible fuses) and relays to no avail. All fuses and relays, seemed intact and not visibly damaged (replaced a few just for good measure out of desperation) both inside and under the hood of the vehicle; this did not fix any of the issues. Further research suggested a full reset of vehicle settings by completing draining power reservoirs from all vehicle systems by disconnecting the battery and running a cable from one battery cable to the other for a couple hours; this also did not fix the problem. After stopping at a popular auto parts store one night for Rainex, amidst trying to solve the issue, after speaking with a seemingly knowledgeable employee while they were hooking up their computer to my vehicle to see what codes might come up, they informed me that to reset the systems by drain power reserve, I only need to disconnect the negative battery cable and run a cable for the negative disconnected cable to the batteries positive post while leaving the vehicles key turned over to the on position, which I did later on, the next day (FYI, the computer that they plugged into my car for codes, came back showing no codes whatsoever; the employee found this quite strange but offered no explanation as to possibilities causing this), this second attempt to reset the vehicles settings via a different power draining technique, was also to no avail.
Christmas Eve with family, talking with them about what’s going on, my cousin suggested that it was possible that disconnecting the battery engaged the vehicle security system. He suggested that I try using my key fob to lock my doors and then from outside the driver's side door I use my key to unlock the door without completely unlocking it and holding the key in this position for 1-2 minutes. I did, and still no change or progress in fixing the problem. He also mentioned that there may be a security code that was issued at the time the vehicle was purchased brand new that may be needed to be input somewhere; possibly through the radio or on the driver's door keypad to disengage the security system which he believes is what’s causing my issue. I’m not however the original purchaser of the vehicle and have no idea who or how I could retrieve this magic code. That is, if my cousin’s theory on how to fix my problem is correct? Having read one of three revisions of my vehicle manual, I did not see anything in it that suggested anything, even in relation to, this suggestion of inputting a secret code to disarm the vehicles security feature. Nor did I find anything relatively suggestive of any security system features that mention disablement of vehicle functions relating to the functions that have seeming quit working after a battery disconnect? I’m baffled, cold, and worried about snowfall predictions for the upcoming week. Please help!
