Hi,

My brother has been having an electrical issue with his truck. There seems to be something draining the battery. He already replaced the battery twice. He hasn't installed any electronics, everything is stock. So, I wanted to ask if anyone could guide me on how I can figure out where and what is draining the battery.

Thank you,
Rob

Hello,

There could be number of reasons why there is excessive parasitic draw (current drain) on the battery. It could be due to a component staying on (with the key off), or a faulty window switch or any other electrical component.
The best way to determine this is to use a multimeter and take reading on the battery as you unplug different fuses. This vehicle should have less than 25 milliamps of parasitic draw.

Here is a helpful video that shows exactly what to do:

I have attached some information on parasitic draw below.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.

Hi,

Sorry about the late reply. I really want to thank you for your help. I was able to find out what was draining the battery. Turns out it was the stereo. The CD player motor would turn on as if a CD was being inserted. Funny thing is that it would turn on a few minutes after the trucks alarm system had been activated. So, he ended up replacing it with an aftermarket stereo and everything has been ok ever since. Again, thank you.
