My car had p1009 code. I cleaned the VTC strainer, variable timing control actuator, changed the oil, filter, belt and plugs. But now the car will not start. It just whines when I turn the key.

Good evening.

The issue with the VVT is the sludge in the oil system. Cleaning the screen and changing the oil is not good enough. The oil system needs to be flushed out of all debris. A product like Seafoam helps break the sludge free to the bottom of the pan and then drop the oil and filter. This may have to done several times. Then the solenoid has to be replaced.

As far as the starting. perform a compression test. It sounds like the timing is off.
