These are items for a salvage yard. Ford is one of the worst manufacturers for making parts available for their older cars. Many are no longer available after only three years. Wire harnesses are the perfect example because each car model uses very specific connector shapes, splices, and wire colors. When a part was used for multiple years, replacements will be available for a longer time.
Regardless, wire harnesses through the dealer are horribly expensive because each one is hand-assembled. It is common to find them at costs between $1,000.00 to $1,500.00. The only time we ever have to order and replace an entire harness is when the car is under warranty or has an aftermarket service contract. For all other problems, we always locate the cause of the problem, then repair the wires.
There is no such thing as a re-manufactured harness like there is with some mechanical parts. Ford and Chrysler are pretty good about putting part number tags on their wire harnesses, so you can use that as a starting place. Be aware that if the donor car you find had an option that isn't on your car, the harness could have some additional wires for that optional circuit that aren't in your old harness. That harness will work, but it is going to have a different part number. In that case, go by application, year, and model. If the connector shapes and key-ways match, check each terminal location to insure there is a wire where there is one in your old harness.
