There is a whining noise from the back end of the car and I don't know what it is. The noise gets louder the faster you go.

Whining noises from the rear when driving that increases with speed is clearly a rotating component. It is normally a bearing that is making the noise, so I would suggest lifting the vehicle and putting it on jack stands so that you can lay under the vehicle or at least next to it while it is spinning to try to pinpoint where the noise is coming from.

I suspect it is the pinion bearing in the rear end but this could also be tires, hub bearing, differential side bearings, etc.

Here is a guide that will help with this:

If you can get a recording of this it will help us determine what it could be. Thanks

I bought the car the way it is. I am having the out put shaft done and the rear main seal. It's driving me crazy not knowing where the noise is coming from. I can't get recording as it only happens when I am driving.

Okay. I would put it on jack stands then so that you can try to pinpoint the noise. You can use a stethoscope to narrow it down. I attached a picture of one that you can get at any parts store. They are normally less then $10.00.

I suspect this is a bearing but we need to narrow it down to which one. Unfortunately this is really the only way short of taking it apart.
