Hello and thanks for using 2CarPros. I am attaching some images detailing where the fuse box is that contains the fuse for the brake lights, and a layout of the box (split into two images). You would be looking at fuse #54. However, this is most likely not your problem. If it was, then none of your brake lights would be working.
It could be a problem with the brake light switch (located under the dash board, mounted to the brake pedal arm) or the multi-function switch (aka the turn signal switch). If you know of a shop with a good tech2 scanner, they would be able to communicate with the vehicle's body control module, which might tell you where there is a short circuit. They might even scan it for you for free or just a few dollars. You could also bring it to the dealer, but they would probably $50.00 or more just to scan it.
Another thing you can try (probably the first thing) is having someone hold the brake pedal down while you wiggle the socket around, with the bulb still inserted. If the light comes and goes, then the problem is simply with the socket and/or its wiring. Inspect the wiring and replace the socket.
Our resources do not offer much in the way of telling you how to remove/replace the socket, but I am including what we do have in the fourth and fifth images below. Please check as much as you can, and get back to us and we will go from there. Thanks and good luck!
