When stopping fast, the car will not be able to Move forward or rev. Until trans. Makes a klunking sound and feels like fluid returns.

The Kia has been a blessing in a bad stretch of time, ( career ending job accident, loss of job due to accident, loss of home due to no money, hence we are now homeless so our car is very important to us ) and my 2000 Kia Sephia has been our rock. It has over 140,000 miles on it and I have done all the maintenance on it.I had to stop suddenly to avoid an accident, and after we found out nobody was hurt or smashed I tried to drive away only to realize my car would not move. I shifted gears turned it off, restarted it, shifted gears again, nothing helped. After numerous horns and fingers I figured I needed to move the car out of the street and I opened the door to push the car and after about a foot the car started to move on it's own, I had left the car running and the gearshift in drive. I jumped back in and off we went, and as long as I was careful and did not stop fast it would continue to drive. When I have had to stop quickly it would come back after about thirty seconds or a minute and you could hear, like the fluid return, and driving would return to normal? Please help me figure this out, we need a little good fortune to come our way. Thank you if you can help. Rich T.

Hey Rich, been there, done that. My 98 Escort was my home for almost 2 years not terribly long ago. Trust me, it'll get better.

As for the problem, check the brakes, make sure the calipers aren't hanging up. Something that old can have rust that will interfere with the free movement. Check the brake fluid, make sure it's not all sludgy. Make sure the parking brake cable moves freely.

Next, check the transmission fluid levels and condition. Smell it. See if it smells burnt. If it does, you need to find a way to flush it.

You said you shut it off and then restarted it. And then started pushing it and it was in gear. You shouldn't have been able to start it in gear. You should only be able to start it in Park or Neutral. That's a problem too.

Do me a favor: email me please. I might be able to help you with income.
