Have the vehicle listed above 3500 RV. I need a low cost scanner which will absolutely troubleshoot this vehicle to diagnose faulty rear wheel speed sensors. No one in the country seems to be able to answer this question absolutely with confidence. Answering this question may very well mean you are the only genius in this country to be able to answer it. I need to know which sensor is bad and how to reset the three accompanying lights on the dash which are on because of the wheel speed sensor. I will give you an honorary genius certificate if you can tell me what low priced scanner will do what I am requesting. Thanks

Hi,

Any OBD2 scanner that can read ABS codes should read it. Or, you can check the sensors with a multi-meter. All a wheel speed sensor does is create a low voltage signal via magnets. So, by connecting a multi meter to the sensor plug and turning the wheel, you will see a voltage reading. If there is no reading, the sensor isn't working. That is about the cheapest way to do it. Here is a link that explains how it's done:

As far as scanners, I'm not a salesman. However, if you simply inquire for one that does read codes, other than just power-train codes, specifically ABS, or wheel speed sensor codes, there is no reason why it shouldn't work. This vehicle has an OBD 2 system which is required in the US and it should work.

If you look at the attached picture, it indicates the models of Sprinters that were available in 2013. If you indicate which one you have, I can get you sensor information, wiring, procedures and so on. Another thing that you may find beneficial are Bluetooth set ups for OBD2 systems. Basically, a small device is plugged into the OBD port which connects with your phone. I was given one and it works great. It doesn't take the place of my scan tool, but I take it with me and it reads everything. The brand is Blue Driver.

Let me know if I can help.

Joe

Good morning,

I have to jump in on this one. I work on these units and you need a scanner with the X sentry program for accessing information and running tests. This is completely different than most scan tools and that is what the dealers use when diagnosing any codes.

For what it is worth, I second what Roy said. These Sprinters do not operate well with just generic scan tools. I know many techs that have spent money on a tool just to have to go get another one for this specific vehicle. Any one you purchase I would make a point of calling the manufacturer and make sure they confirm that it is completely compatible with your model and year.
