Hi there guys,

I have the truck listed above 1500 Sport. She has a lot of miles on her, around 250,000. The truck currently uses/burns? Oil at a rate of about 1 quart every 1,500 miles or so. It does not smoke out the exhaust or anything like that and there is no water/coolant in the oil nor any oil in the coolant. I cannot see any leaks in the engine and it does not leave any oil drops/spots on the road. So I am thinking that it is just because the engine and bearings are probably a little worn out. Just my guess. The truck runs great and the oil pressure is spot on. I have been using 10W-30 Valvoline Max Life High Mileage oil in it for the last 6 years or so. My question is, should I maybe use 10W-40, or add like Lucas oil stabilizer to the 10W-30 or something? I was thinking that maybe increasing the oil viscosity might cause it to use less oil? Either with going to 10W-40 or adding Lucas Stabilizer or maybe do both? I figured that seeing as the engine and bearings are a little worn out that if I thicken the oil it would use less? Or am I way off base here. Thanks much for your time and inputs.

Good evening,

The rings are definitely worn. 1 quart every 1,500 is still a good number.

As far as additives, no, never use them as they have no effect.

I would go to 10-40 and keep up on the changes. It may or may not increase the miles between needing to add but it should help.
