Hello all! I hope everyone is keeps safe and healthy! With a lot of shops closed here in NYC, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this sound is. I only hear it when the car isn’t moving.

Thanks!

Hi,

Are you referring to the ticking sound? If so, open the hood and see if it seems to be coming from the top of the engine. It could simply be a lifter noise. If it does seem to come from the top, make sure the oil is clean and full.

Next, see if the sound is more obvious from near one of the front wheels or under the vehicle. An exhaust leak can cause a ticking as well.

One last thing. Turn the engine off and open the hood. Confirm the drive belt is in good conditions and not making noise.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

Hi Joe! Thanks so much for your response! I went and got an inspection today and they mechanic said that it’s coming from the engine and that the engine would be dying out and we should either prepare to sell the car or just keep it until it dies. Do you have any thoughts on this?

I doubt the engine is bad at 39,000. Did you have the inspection done at a dealership? If not, I suggest taking it to one and asking the service manager to just listen to it. If he says the same thing, then we need to contact Chrysler. The Jeep has a 5 year 100,000 mile power-train warranty. I realize this is year 5, but it will be based on when it was put into service. If it is only out by a short time, we need to do some complaining.

The engine, if bad, should be replaced by the manufacturer.

Let me know if you got it new. If you did, what month did you get it.
