What engine would Fit

Which version of the Eclipse?The RS and ES used a Chrysler 420A 2.0L.
The turbocharged 2.0L engines are Mitsubishi 4G64s.
Those are not interchangeable.
As for which years will work, it depends on which engine.

The Chrysler non-turbo 2.0 will interchange from 1996-1997 and from the Avenger or the Eclipse as long as it is the Chrysler engine.

The Mitsubishi turbo engine is much harder because they actually changed the ECM and controlling parts three times and you need to go by the actual build date as the other versions will not interchange.

Nope, you have the Mitsubishi 4G63 engine in that. You need to look on the data plate and determine when the vehicle was actually built. Before 03/02/1997 it can use the mid 1996 through 03/02/1997 engine, If it's built after that date you only have 03/03/1997 - the end of the 97 model year. In 1998 they switched to a different control system and engine design that won't work at all.
