My engine seems like something's leaking because of the wet areas. The pictures below show where.
Is this a bad thing?

It does look like you have an oil leak of some sort. I assume that is why you asked about the power steering reservoir in the other post I just answered for you.

So that will relate to this one but thank you for starting two because they technically two different topics.

The way to address this, is first check all your fluids and see if any are low. If one is low that may be where the oil is coming from. However, due to the fact that this appears to be behind the drive belt, it would probably be the power steering.

I would suggest cleaning it down with a shop solvent like brake parts cleaner or shop solve. Then top off all your fluids and check it on a regular basis to see how bad the leak is. This may have taken a week to get like this or years. If it is years then you don't need to worry about it. Let's just see how quickly the oily look comes back and go from there. Thanks

I think it's the power steering that's leaking. A while back a mechanic diagnosed that. But I don't remember if he said it's the rack and pinion or the pump. With the engine bay being wet in those pictures I showed you, would that be an effect of the rack and pinion or the pump?

I would definitely suspect the pump because the rack and pinion is under the vehicle and that appeared to be behind the drive belt so that is almost sure to be the pump. This all adds up so I would just plan on replacing the pump when it gets worse. That amount of fluid does not tell me it needs to be replaced immediately. Worst case, it will start making noise and then it is time to replace it.

The vehicle does make a whining type noise when riding and when you turn the steering wheel to the left and right, it also makes that same whining noise.

Okay. Whining when turning is a failing pump or air in the system due to low fluid. Just top off the fluid and then turn the wheel back and forth about 20 times then check the fluid again. If the pump is still okay it will work the air out and that noise will stop. Otherwise you will need to replace the pump.

So the pump needs replacing since there is a leak in the engine bay.

Yes. Based on all the info, the leak in the area you showed, the whining pump, and possibly being low on fluid, I suspect the pump needs to be replaced. I would suggest topping off the fluid first and see if it is just low on fluid which is why it is making noise, but if it is full and making noise then the pump is the most likely issue.

The manual just calls it a power steering pump. I attached the OEM part number just in case you can cross reference it.
