I need to replace the water pump on my 2000 VW Jetta vr6 2.8l. I was wondering if you had to replace the timing chain too? Or can you put the same timing chain back on? And if I did not replace the timing chain is it going to be the next thing I have to replace?
I have read that usually when you change the water pump you should replace timing chain the same time.
Please help.

Why not just do it while you have it apart, depending on mileage of the car of course.

If the timing chain has never been replaced and with your Jetta having 207,000 miles. It would be time and money well spent to replace the timing chain as well.
