So, I shredded the passenger rear speed sensor and need to get another one to restore the ABS system.

Here are my questions:

1. Since the only piece that is shredded is the part of the harness that fits onto the top of the hub, why couldn't I clip off the old part and solder a replacement (used) part? I assume there are only two wires coming from the actual sensor attached to the harness.
2. Do you think either of the front sensors would be a compatible fit?
3. Do you think there are any other Toyota/Lexus models whose rear wheel sensor is compatible?

The darn wire harness with the sensor is between $300-425 new from the dealer.

Thanks,

Jon

They are not giving those sensors away. That's more money than I would have guessed. Yes, there are only two wires going to the sensor, I don't know about using a front sensor but if you can get to the wires, you should be able to repair the sensor. Here is how you remove the sensor so you can get at the wiring more easily. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Ken,

So, the bad sensor is the right (passenger side) rear. We were going to leave the harness in place, just remove the actual sensor from the axle hub, cut the wires and splice in a new (used) sensor. What do you think?

Yep, that should work. I would solder the wires together so there is no resistance in the circuit.

Ken L,

Just wanted to update you. The patch worked! A very easy fix. Now we just have to reset the VSC Off light.

Thanks for your help.
