cooling fan

i am working on a 1997 volvo 960 with aprox. 80,000 miles and is an automatic with a 2.9 engine. the cooling fans run at all times and for about 5 minutes after you shut the engine off. i have replaced the thermostat and checked the fan realy and it is good. the car does not run hot, but the fans are constant. i was thing the fan control or fan switch. what do you think and is there a way i can test it?

perfectly normal for the fan to run after car is shut down. should not run down battery, dont worry.
