Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Volvo 850 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 113000 miles

There is a hole in the catalytic converter, at the front where the pipe is connected. I have a $1500 fix estimate (to do it right) $250 to 'give it a temp fix'. My thoughts are to eliminate the catalytic converter and replace with simple straight pipe. Will this effect the operation of the vehicle? If so how may the operation be effected?
Thanks!
