I have a 95 850 Turbo - the check engine lights came on and the codes indicated that the O2 sensors and the knock sensor needed replacement -- I have not replaced either -- my son is driving home and a loud noise starts from engine -- the car will start but has this loud noise -- I took the coil wire off and turn over the engine and all seems fine -- no noise -- he said that the car was starting slower than before -- i'm wondering whether my time belt has slipped or that the knock sensor going out is causing the loud noise -- took the middle 2 plugs out and both seem fine -- oil is full -- no water in oil -- other? When a turbo goes out, does it make any noises?

Thanks for your help

Timing belts rarely slip or jump. They usually just shred. The most common indications of turbo failure are gross smoking out the exhaust pipe, poor engine excelleration or the turbo coming apart and throwing debris into the exhaust system or the engine itself. With the engine at an idle and trans in park, raise the engine off idle a couple of hundred rpms. If the "rattle" follows the engine rpms, this may bad rod bearings in the engine. Good luck.
