My wife is complaining that the brakes are really starting to squeek and I noticed they seemed to pulse when I drove the Jetta TDI recently. What kind of brakes would this car have and is it a tough job to undertake? Going to a foreign car repair shop is very expensive, so I'm thinking of tackling this myself with a friend who typically is quite good with cars.

If the fronts are pulsing, the rotors may be warped. If they are making noise , you may be looking at a full front brake job.I would suggest new rotors at that mileage, they most likely have been machined before, and the thinner they get the easier they will warp. Also use a high quality pad, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) if the budget will allow it. Go here and you should find the info you ned to handle this job
