Engine problem 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 54200 miles

We recently purchased an '02 Jetta. When you accelerate moderately to normal there is a distinct ticking or knocking sound coming from the engine. When you accelerate hard you do not hear it. Can you give me an idea as to what this is? Thanks!

Also having this issue. Seems that does not appear if not under power. Sounded like bad motor mounts, I've got them changed but the noise persistes. The noise itself seem to be agnostic to acutal speed, but is dependent of the rpms. I don't see it on 1st gear, but I start to notice it on 2nd gear and 3rd, 4th and 5th. It seems to come on just under 2K rpms. I've tried to move the wheel to the right and left during that noise, to see if direction of the wheels changes the noise. It does not. Someone told me that if it did it could be bearings. But that is not consistant with the "only under power", as when I let go off the gas, it stops immidiatelly. It drives me nuts. I Think that is growing louder But I think I may be my imagination.

Anyone think what could be?

To me it sounds like you have a seized wrist pin but to be sure if you can take a quick video of the problem and upload it to the site on your reply I can tell for sure.

Cheers, Ken
