Shakes or Wobbles problem
2001 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 155 km miles

This morning I went to go out, started my car and noticed it was a little rough. I took it around the block and noticed it was shaking and the engine is a little more noisy than normal. The check engine light is blinking too. I have been wanting to do a tune up as it has not been done since I've owned the car. What is the problem and is it okay to drive 7km to my mechanics?

It's really pretty much impossible to say specifically what the problem is based on the info provided. Perhaps it's missing on one cylinder or something. If you really have no idea what it is or what to do and you plan on having the car worked on by professionals AND the car is in otherwise good condition, the cost of having it towed to your mechanic may be insignificant in comparison to the potential damage you could do by driving the car with a major problem.

Thanks for trying to help. Since this morning, I started my car again let it warm up and took it around the block a couple of times. None of the rough idling occurred and the check engine light did not blink at all. I allowed the car to get up to normal temperature and nothing. Could a faulty cylinder or plugs be causing this? What is going on with my car? It has been really wet here in the past few days.

Well, that's a bit more info. It is conceivable that some water (moisture) infiltrated somewhere. Perhaps just letting the engine run and get up to temp helped dry it out a bit.
If the car seems to be running okay, it probably is safe to jaunt down to the repair place. You did mention you wanted to have the car "tuned up" so now might be a choice time to have it looked at. Be sure to explain all of this to the mechanic so they can be on the lookout.
