1997 Volkswagen Jetta Heater core and/or head gasket

I have a 1997 VW Jetta GLX (V6). Just yesterday a strong antifreeze smell started coming through the vents and the windows will not defrost. I stopped by a Jiffy Lube and thought it may be the heater core and/or head gasket. Does that sound plausible and how much might a repair cost? Thank you.

Sounds to me like a bad heater core, that will run you about 100 bucks + 7 hours of service.
