I have a 1997 VW Jetta with 96,500 miles that I just brought into a shop for wiper blade problem and decided to get a tune up also. He changed wires and air filter and oil change. The car ran great for about 1 week before check engine light came on blinking and car feels like it will stall. It shakes at lights. The check engine light stays on and blinks intermittently, but the car runs awful, no pickup. I popped the hood and one of the wires is sparking. The mechanic is on vacation for next 2 weeks. I will bring it back, but any ideas what might have happened? Am I doing any long term damage driving it in this condition? Did I get bad wires? Thanks for your help. Love the website.

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated

Yes you got bad wires .. replace the bad one or all of them straight away .. try not to drive it in this condition as the car is misfiring and not burning the fuel correctly and this can damage the catalytic convertor .. if you mechanic cannot replace them have them replaced somewhere else and bill him later !!hope this helps ..let me know
