We purchased a 2003 golf a few weeks ago. After a couple of days we started having difficulty with the shifter engaging from park to reverse. It was stuck in the park position. We brought it back to the dealer and they changed the switch under the brake pedal and everything seemed to be fine.
Two weeks later the shifter is again sticking however it only occurs in the A.M. When we first get into the car for the day. If I warm the car up for 4-5 minutes the shifter works fine.
I am concerned that I have an issue with the linkage connected to the shifter or even worce a transmision problem. Could it be that I just have a faulty switch?

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated

Return the vehicle to the dealer and have them check the BOO (brake on/off) switch again .. it is possible you got a faulty replacement .. it is also possible the linkage may have a fault or need adjusting or a fault on the Shift lock solenoid .. have them test these if the BOO switch seems good ... it does concern me that the fault seems to go away when the transmission starts to warm up .. mention this to the dealer !

hope this helps
