Vibrating noise

The description sounds like it could be the exhaust system hitting the chassis as the engine moves on it's mounts. A quick test would be to hold the brakes, shift into drive and rev the engine some, do you hear the vibration? Now put it into reverse and try the same thing. It's also possible that it's the engine itself but that usually means you have a failed engine mount.
