Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. I have a Vauxhall astra mk4 1.8 16v 1998/99 and it has covered about 77k miles, it was serviced by vauxhall untill 61k miles and then was off the road for about a year before I bought it but I serviced it at about 72k miles with GM parts in february. The car is manual, front wheel drive.

The problem is when I am for example driving at 20mph in 2nd gear, if I come off the accelerator the car starts to chug/jerk but after it does this the car seems to go smoothly, it wont do it if im at 30mph in 2nd gear.I took it to an independent garage and they found no faults on the ecu and they recommended me to replace the egr valve as this is what they thought was causing it. I replaced the egr valve with a Delphi one which I believe is what these cars use from new but the problem is still there.

I have spoken to vauxhall and they have told me it would cost £70 for them to look at it and they have no guarantee they will find the fault but will still charge me. Im hoping someone will have any idea what is causing this, thanks.

I would remove and clean the MAF (mass airflow) sensor. But without the car giving a fault code on the ECU run. Then you could be changeing parts without reason and this would turn out expensive in the long. If a local garage found no faults on the ECU then vauxhall will only find the same. Wait till the MIL is showing on the dash display then have the ECU read !
