Bought the car from a distant colleague having known it had been in a bump and repaired mot done etc. I have now took it for the 3rd test and it has failed because the 'leg and disc' on one side is a 1.2 which is should be and the other a 1.4. Is this dangerous. Why would it have passed before.

It should have been noticed on the previous inspections and therefore failed. It is not necassarily dangerous. But will cause the car not to run straight on the road (alignment). You should have the parts replaced with the correct parts.
