My oil warning light comes on when I brake hard in my car or sometimes when I go downhill, I have topped it up with oil and it stopped but only for a couple of days and then it started again. My engine also makes a loud ticking noise but this noise stops when I put the clutch down. This noise is at it's loudest when the car is stationery with the engine on. What could be wrong with my car.

Check/replace oil level sensor. Check you have no oil leaaks. The clutch release bearing could be rattling and needs replacing !

Thanks very much for that mate, I have checked under the car for dripping oil but could'nt see anything, is there anyway it could drip internally and not actually onto the road or driveway?

If you have a "leak" it would eventually make it's way onto the road/driveway ... perhaps the engine is running a little hot and burning it off quickly ? try using a thicker grade motor oil and an engine oil addative to treat the engine !!

hope this helps
