Hi,
If the check engine light is on and you've had it to shops, they should have indicated the trouble codes that were retrieved. Has anyone provided that? If not, you can stop at most parts stores and have them scan the computer for codes. That would be very helpful.
Now, what you described sounds like it could be a couple of different issues. First, if it happens more with low fuel or on an incline, it could be a partially plugged sock/filter in the fuel tank. That would restrict fuel flow. You could check the fuel pressure to determine if it is low. Here is a link that explains how it's done.

On the other hand, this could also be a faulty crankshaft position sensor. When they start to fail, oftentimes they are adversely affected by heat and stop working when they get hot. Normally, they require a short cool-down time to begin working again. However, they can also do what you described.
Take a look through this link and let me know if the symptoms discussed mirror what you experience:

Since there are different things that can cause what you described, I do recommend having the computer scanned for codes. They could be listed on a receipt from when the vehicle was worked on at a shop. Try your best to get them and let me know what they are.
Take care,
Joe
