I took my car to the mechanic and he is saying to replace and do the labor on my car it will be $1,100.00. He said the valve cover part is $550.00. Labor another $550.00. I found the part online for less. $100.00 to $300.00 or so. Does it matter which part I use? And does labor cost sound right? Part number is 1112755281.

Thanks,
SJ

Hi John,

That is the correct part number and I also see quite a variance in price from different suppliers. The labor for changing the valve cover is listed as 3.5 hours, so depending on the shop labor per hour charge, it's possible to reach what was quoted.

If you do go on line to order the part, ensure that it matches your part number. I checked a couple of them and they referred to a non-compatible BMW part. Be careful.

Questions: Why are you needing to replace the valve cover itself? If it's just the gasket leaking, there is no need to replace the cover.

Thanks for using 2CarPros. Glenn
