Car will only drive when transmission is in reverse

When i put my car in drive, after about 20-25 mph, the engine begins to rev, like it's slipped into low gear; really fast, then i'm unable to continue forward. No problem in reverse, thank goodness, its how we've gotten it back to our driveway. My husband checked transmission fluid; no leaks that he can tell.

It sounds like something internal has failed in the transmission.

How long since you had the fluid changed? Dirty fluid could cause this failure.

Is the check engine light on? If it is, do you know the code?
