Thanks for getting back to me Roy,
I took my car to a garage when the light first came on a couple of years ago. The lad said it getting a reading was simple and took less than a minute, but they wanted to charge me  30! I thought that was way too expensive for a minutes work and after he warned the codes don't always tell you the problem with 100% accuracy, and may require further diagnoses I declined. He advised on the most common causes of the light to come on and listed some symptoms to look out for, but said there was no need or legal requirement to have the light off. For a couple of years now I haven't had any of the symptoms or had any change to my fuel economy, so if the light will not result in an MOT fail as it has done previously, I can continue to drve safely and happily. If it will now result in a fail then this may be the year I am finally priced off the road, which has been coming for a while now.
So to re-post my original question; Will a lit Engine Management light result in a fail at my car's MOT test next week?
Many thanks,
Calvin
