Okay, so I bought a used U341E transmission to replace the one in my car listed above (GT).

I have noticed with the U341E that on newer cars the gear driven speedometer sensor was obsoleted and the bore hole capped over but otherwise 100% identical.

The problem I am having is the car wants to use the gear driven speedometer sensor so I put one in the hole after removing the cap and noticed that the gear inside the transmission that drives this sensor is obsoleted as well. Verified using a bore scope to confirm its 100% not there.

Is it possible to use the electronic VSS sensor? Reprogramming the ECU to get the VSS output speed from this sensor or what must I do? Install the drive gear in the transmission?

Hello,

I have never heard of an outside VSS sensor, but that not to say they do not make them. To install the drive gear would be difficult but here are the exploded transmission diagrams so you can see what it will take to change it out.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers, Ken
