I've been having this issue for about a week now. At first the trunk wouldn't close then it wouldn't open.
I've changed fuse 8 (Trunk Release) and fuse 16 (Trunk Release) and Relay R1 (Trunk Release) along with a new Lid Latch Lock.

Brought it to firestone and they said it's the Lid Latch Lock, due to the price and me having the part already I'm trying to do it myself.

I've installed the new lid Latch Lock it still doesn't open or close.
When I click the button on the trunk, I hear a click on the driver side circuit and fuse 16 lights up (meaning the fuse is blown?)

Firestone also took the emergency release so I can't install it on this new lock. Not sure if it's required for the Lid Latch Lock to open and close.

Anyone got solutions or theories?

edit: I think at this point it comes down to fuse 16 blowing or the wiring being bad. Not sure though.

Hi,

The fuse is a concern. Do you mean it sparks? Regardless, it shouldn't spark or light up. If the fuse is blown when you check it, we have a short at some point. Keep in mind, the body control module is what actually powers the latch.

I've attached diagnostics below for the circuit, module, and components. Take a look through them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them. Note that the first few pics are descriptions and possible issues.

Let me know.
