My truck is the XLT model. It will like shutter and shake, say like when I cruising along at any speed and I step on the gas pedal to speed up I get this shimmy/shake. It feels like your driving over those rumble sticks on some highways or if your driving a stick shift and you try to start out in like four gear it will also do while cruising along and start up a hill/incline or grade change, if I immediately let off the gas it will stop or I can accelerate through it. The check engine light has been coming on and off intermittently throwing a DTC 181, fuel system at rich adaptive limit at part throttle, system lean. I recently replaced plugs, plug cables, air filter, mass air flow sensor, tested EGR it was fine, replaced O2 sensor. Checked all vacuum lines, replaced vacuum canister, checked fuel pressure it was within spec, replace fuel pressure regulator. Recently replaced tie rod ends, u-joints, front shocks, radius arm bushings upper and lower ball joints, had front end aligned new tires all around/balanced, replaced front and rear wheel bearings, new radiator, new water pump, thermostat, front engine cover gasket, new alternator, new starter and new battery. It even has brand new windshield wipers and a new fuel filter.

It still sounds like the truck is misfiring. Did the truck have a problem before you changed the spark plugs? If not you could have cracked one of the spark plugs.

I would remove all of the spark plugs to look at the color to see if you have one that is different this will be the cylinder that is having a problem.

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers, Ken

Hello Ken thanks for your response and to answer your question, yes, it did do it prior to changing of the spark plugs, I did pull the plugs to check and they all looked good although they’re only a week and half old also verified that the wires were routed properly cause I’ve read some things about cross firing, but to me it seems a misfiring cylinder would cause it to happen constantly. Also would a dead or misfiring cylinder throw the DTC 181 that I’m receiving? One thing I didn’t mention is that the previous owner had a coolant leak at the throttle body where the coolant goes into it, it was corroded and he did away with it and also filled the passage with JB weld. Now it’s always been my understanding that the coolant going thru the throttle body was to aid in cold starts but I was wondering if it also affected the temp of the incoming air and if colder air would affect engine performance because it seems to have started about a month or so ago when temps here in Oklahoma started to drop? Also everything I’ve read on the engine code 181 leans forward O2 sensor which I’ve replaced with no prevail.

It is lean because of the misfire. I would remove the EGR valve and check it to make sure it seals closed you may have an internal vacuum leak. Here is a video to help you see what I am talking about.

This guide can help as well

Thanks again for your rapid response I’ll remove/test EGR valve, I just ordered some silicone vacuum line, broke two accidentally so I plan on redoing all of them. Drove it yesterday outside air temp got up to about 67 degrees and it ran great? I’ll let you know how goes after testing EGR valve and replacing all vacuum lines. Thanks
