This sounds like a fuel delivery issue. The issue is you need to determine if this is fuel supply or the high pressure side. You technically have two fuel pumps. One is more of a traditional fuel pump called the supply pump and the other is the injection pump that creates your high pressure.
I would suspect the supply pump diaphragm is leaking because it is driven off the cam. So when you pick up the RPM the pump supplies more fuel.
