I get the following codes:
P0496 and P0171.
Once both came one, other times only one will come on.

The last 3 times I filled the car with gas and go to start the car, the car will act like it's not getting enough gas. It eventually goes away but when I drive for a short time and turn off the car, it will keep running, but sluggishly.

Hi,

The P0171 indicates a lean fuel mixture and code P496 is related to the canister purge valve which is part of the emissions system.

A lean mixture is usually the result of an engine vacuum leak. The two are likely tied together.

First, I attached a pic below. Open the hood and locate the component I highlighted. Check the vacuum hoses on both sides of that for damage, dry rot, being disconnected, or anything you feel could cause a leak. The component is the canister purge valve.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

No leaks found, replaced the purge valve and it seems to be fixed now.

Hi,

I'm glad to hear it's fixed. The purge valve was likely stuck open causing a vacuum issue.

Regardless, I'm glad to hear it's fixed. Please feel free to come back anytime in the future if you have questions. You're always welcome here.

Take care,

Joe
