My truck listed above has a 4r55e transmission that slips and lurches on deceleration around 55-60 MPH. I found a used transmission in a 2001 Ranger 4.0 engine, either a 5r44e or 5r55e. Can I swap these out and if so, do I have to change the bell housing or any wiring?

Yes. There are many people that have done this over the years, and it does work but you may run into one-off issues based on the unit that you are getting. Clearly, we don't know the condition of the unit that you are getting, and I am not sure I have seen it done with that year's transmission.

I would suggest trying to find a 95-96 trans as I am sure the only thing that you need to swap is the neutral safety switch.

So, I am attaching that info below. Please let me know what questions you have on this and how you make out.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, but how is this a neutral safety switch? It only does it on deceleration and around the time that it should be dropping into 2nd gear.I have had it looked over by a transmission shop and was told that it needs to be rebuilt. If it's just a neutral switch that's easy to find online, and cheaper than a replacement or rebuild. But I want to be sure. Thanks

Sorry for the confusion. You originally asked if you could swap this transmission for your vehicle's. I informed you that you could, but you may have to swap the neutral safety switch as I think they are different so the other will not plug into your harness.

If you are looking to repair this issue, we can help with that, but I was only addressing the ability to swap the units.

Sorry. Maybe I am confused. Are you looking for help on the transmission slipping?

If so, let's get a post started for that issue. You titled this one as transmission swap, so we need to stick to that topic.

If you have an issue with it slipping and want to try and repair that then let's start a post with that issue and give us the details about what it is doing and any repairs that you have made.

Also, inspect the fluid for level and condition and include that in the new post.

Sorry for the inconvenience but we need to keep each post to the same issue as the title.

Thanks
