Hello, my car my car either goes in reverse but not drive and vice versa. The battery light comes on and my car doesn't shift into 3rd or 4th gear when this occurs. Also, my VSA light is staying on. I changed the transmission fluid and filter. Also, I checked my transmission solenoids and there was no buildup.. I replaced my battery 2 weeks prior to the symptoms my car is doing now. No engine light is coming on either. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Even though there are no check engine lights there can still be a code so here is a guide to help us retrieve any codes inside the computer. It sounds like you have a transmission range sensor that is going out, here is the location so you can check it out. This guide can help as well:

Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem so we can see what's going on.

Thank you for the reply Ken L! Can I remove/ replace the transmission ranger sensor myself or do I have to tow it to a mechanic? Also, I wanted to mention after I turn my car A/C on , that's when all the problems started on that day .. Thanks again!

Yes, you can do it yourself, just follow the instructions, also we should run the codes as well. Let me know how it goes.
