The first thing we need to do is have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. If the check engine light came on, there should be codes stored.

If there is a parts store near you and the vehicle is safe enough to drive there, they will usually scan it free of charge.
Also, make sure the transmission fluid is clean and full. If I recall, Chrysler used a CVT transmission on this vehicle. It isn't uncommon for them to act up or fail.
