My transmission is leaking after I had engine changed out by mechanic shop. After a few days of driving my car with the rebuilt engine I noticed a oil burning smell it was dark so I parked it. In the morning I checked the ground and did not see anything. Once I took it to get a wheel alignment they told me I had a transmission leak. I want to know where the leak is coming from and can I fix myself because they will not assume liability?

May be a loose fitting for the transmission oil cooler. If the leak is from the bell housing, it may be a torque converter seal leaking. Have these inspected first.

There is a front support bush for the torque converter, if this is worn the torque converter seal often will not seal properly, it is not a huge job to replace but the transmission will have to be removed again, it is not something that would be replaced with a front seal leak problem under normal circumstances.
