Hello,

How can I change the transmission fluid in my vehicle listed above?
How many liters are needed?

Hello,

Your vehicle is equipped with the 1ET35 transmission.

The transmission oil change is due at 97,000 miles.

To carry out transmission oil change you will require a suitable scan tool to operate the transmission oil pump to be able to check the oil level after refill.

Total fill capacity is 4.4 quarts, approximamtely 4.2liters.

See bulletin below regarding correct oil grade:
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10139237-9999.pdf

I will NOT list the transmission filter replacement as this requires specialized high voltage qualifications to safely carry out this repair

TRANSMISSION FLUID DRAIN AND FILL
Remove the front compartment air deflector.
Place a suitable drain pan under the transmission fluid pan.
Remove the transmission fluid pan from the transmission to drain the transmission fluid.
NOTE:
Replace the fluid pan gasket with a new gasket every time the transmission fluid pan is removed.

Position a new transmission fluid pan gasket to the pan, then install the transmission fluid pan and gasket to the transmission.

Using a commercially available hand pump, add transmission fluid through the case fill hole (2)
CAUTION:
Check the transmission fluid level immediately after adding fluid and before vehicle operation. Do not overfill the transmission. An overfilled transmission may result in foaming or fluid to be expelled out the vent tube when the vehicle is operated. Overfilling will result in possible damage to the transmission.

Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check. see article lower down
NOTE:
Continue to monitor the transmission fluid temperature, if the fluid temperature falls below the specified range. Operate the vehicle again, until the transmission fluid temperature is reached.

Operate the vehicle until transmission fluid temperature is 86-122°F (30-50°C).
NOTE:
The auxiliary transmission fluid pump must be running when the transmission oil level check plug is removed or excessive fluid loss will occur, resulting in an under-filled condition.

NOTE:
When the oil level check plug is removed with the auxiliary fluid pump OFF, excessive loss of transmission fluid will occur.

Using the scan tool, command the auxiliary transmission fluid pump speed to ON for 10 minutes and keep it running throughout the process.
Remove the transmission oil level check plug (2) and verify a light drip of fluid comes out.
CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .

Install the transmission oil level check plug (2) and tighten to 12Nm (106 lb in).
Using the scan tool, command the auxiliary transmission fluid pump speed to OFF.
Install the front compartment air deflector.

TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL AND CONDITION CHECK
This procedure checks both the transmission fluid level, as well as the condition of the fluid itself. Since the transmission on this vehicle is not equipped with a fill tube and dipstick, a fill plug in the top of the transmission and level set plug is used to set the fluid level.

CAUTION:
The transmission fluid level must be checked when the transmission fluid temperature is between 30-50°C (86-122°F). If the transmission fluid temperature is not within this range, operate the vehicle or allow the fluid to cool as required. Setting the fluid level with a transmission fluid temperature outside this range will result in either an under or over-filled transmission. Transmission fluid temperature greater than 50°C will result in an under-filled condition, transmission fluid temperature less than 30°C will result in an over-filled condition. An under-filled transmission will cause premature component wear or damage. An over-filled transmission will cause fluid to discharge out the vent tube, fluid foaming, or pump cavitation.

CAUTION:
The auxiliary transmission fluid pump must be running when the A/Trans case hole plug is removed or excessive fluid loss will occur, resulting in an under-filled condition. An under-filled transmission will cause premature component wear or damage.

NOTE:
Continue to monitor the Transmission Fluid Temperature. If the Transmission Fluid Temperature is not within the specified values, reinstall the trans oil level check plug and repeat the previous steps.

Operate vehicle until transmission fluid temperature is 30-50°C (86-122°F).
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the front compartment air deflector.
Transmission in Park (P).
With the scan tool, command the auxiliary transmission fluid pump speed to ON for 10 minutes and keep it running throughout the process.
Remove the A/Trans case hole plug (2).
Verify fluid slowly drips from the A/Trans case hole.
If the fluid is flowing as a steady stream, wait until the fluid begins to drip.
If no fluid comes out, add 0.5 L (.52 Qtrs.) of fluid until fluid drips out.
Refer to Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill.

CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .

Install A/Trans case hole plug (2) and torque to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
Using the scan tool, command the auxiliary transmission fluid pump speed to OFF.
Vehicle Off.
Install the front compartment air deflector.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Boris
