My car had very hard shifts when cold (neutral to first) and minor hard shift when driving. I flushed old oil and it started making a whistling sound when upshifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Now when driving the gear shifts down to 1st from 2nd instead of upshifting to 3rd gear. If I drive in D2 mode, it works fine (but no 3rd and 4th gears available).
Replaced solenoid set but still the same symptoms.
Guidance desperately needed!

Hi,

The first thing I recommend is to flush the transmission cooler which is integral with the radiator. There have been issues with them restricting line pressure.

I attached the directions below. The first picture indicates the flow of fluid specific to your vehicle. The remaining pics are the directions for performing the flush.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Joe,

Thanks a lot for the response, I greatly appreciate your consideration!
I flushed the transmission oil by removing the outlet tube from the "cooler outlet" and started the engine (jacked up) and put the shifter in D position and kept replenishing it with new oil. There was a pretty strong jet of fluid coming out of the "cooler outlet". I have also replaced the transmission oil filter. Please see the oil pan image with worn out metal deposit on magnets and some small chunks of metal in the pan.
If you still think that the cooler could be the culprit, I will go ahead and get it cleaned.
Very thankful for your response.
Regards,
Ashish.

Hi,

There is a lot in the pan. Are those small metal pieces in addition to what is on the magnets?

As far as the cooler, it wouldn't hurt to try.

Let me know.

Joe
