I need to replace my auto transmission

2001-2003 use the same transmission and are the only years that interchange as well. What is the issue you are having with it and when was the transmission serviced last? Normally I will have my local transmission guru rebuild a transmission, he adds in any upgrades and updates as he builds them so the end result is better than the OE version. I usually recommend rebuilds for that reason, especially over a used unit.
The good thing is that being a 2 wheel drive it's easier to deal with than a 4X4.

No, the transmissions are pretty much the same for about 5 years. You are better off getting the exact replacement. Otherwise, the replacement may be different electronically causing it not to work correctly.

Most likely it is an internal issue. Replacing it with a used or rebuilt transmission would be a good idea.
