I have the vehicle listed above z71 old body style. I put a new transmission in and a crate motor. It feels like the transmission has got some resistance, I also do not have neutral. I can also hear a little whining noise. Do I need to adjust the shift linkage, please help. I've never replaced a transmission so I don't know what it is I need to do.

So, this can happen when the transmission torque converter is not seated in the transmission completely. If so the front pump of the transmission got damaged when the engine was bolted to the transmission, here is a video of what I am talking about.

It is on a Ford, but it applies to all automatic transmissions.

Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so I can hear the noise? That way I can tell for sure what's going on. You can upload it here with your response.
