The car would start but when I put it in reverse or any other gear it doesn't go into gear. I press the gas and it just revs up. I put transmission fluid in it and it worked like it supposed to. I drove it a little further and it started going out of gear again. I pulled over and noticed what looked like transmission fluid leaking out from closer to the driver side of the engine. I tried putting more transmission fluid in and it didn't make it go into gear that time. The only lights on are low coolant light and the brake pads are pretty worn down and we been driving it with it grinding. There are like 100,000 miles on it. Oh yeah the transmission dip stick is missing.

Okay. There are a number of issues we need to address because the brakes are a safety issue so we should make that the priority. Then the transmission leaking is clearly a seal so we need to limit down the area that it is coming from in order to determine what seal it is. Lastly the dip stick needs to be replaced because the fluid can actually come out of the dipstick so this could actually be the leak point.

So I would suggest getting a picture or video of where the fluid is leaking which will give us a better idea as to where it is coming from. The fact that the fluid is low and leaking is the most likely cause of it not going into gear or shifting. Let us know what you find. Thanks

Good afternoon,

What are the pictures showing? The pictures are too dark and you cannot see anything.

My name is Michael Underwood I'm the one that posted the issue with the car listed above regarding a transmission that wouldn't go into gear that was leaking transmission fluid. Here are some pictures that I have of it leaking fluid. In one of your replies you said if I had a picture showing where it was leaking you may be able to give me some more information on exactly what it is and how much it will cost to fix it.

That appears to be the front pump seal if I am oriented correctly. It looks like that is coming from between the transmission and engine. If that is correct then the transmission needs to come out in order to repair it.

I attached the process on how to access the pump and remove the transmission. The time to do this is about 10 hours. So an estimate would be probably close to $1,000.00. Clearly this would vary on the shop you take it to and how much they charge per hour.

Hopefully this information helps. Thanks
