Hello, I bought the vehicle listed above 2.2 197 bhp, from UK and after checking tremble and noises coming from the front middle and rear, the local Hyundai service told me I have problem with transfer box. I don't know the part number or where I can find one or even if I can repair the current one.

Hi,

I believe you are referring to the transfer case. I attached a picture below that indicates a new part cost, the part number, and labor to remove and replaced.

Now I have to be honest. It is uncommon for them to fail. Make sure before replacing the unit that the coupling assembly and all universal and CV joints are checked. A loose, worn, or damaged component can make noise and cause a vibration.

Keep in mind, almost anything is repairable, but we need to determine what is broken. At that point we can decide if it is better to fix or repair. With that, first make sure everything is tight. My first suspect is the coupling assembly at the rear of the transfer case is loose or damaged. (See pictures 2 and 3)

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,
Joe

I copied one of your pictures and circled what I think is the issue. The splines look stripped in that picture. Is that what they are telling you?

Hi,

I hate to say it, but I have to agree. I wish I could offer a simple solution, but if the splines are gone, they aren't fixable. The only thing I can suggest asking is if the damaged input shaft can be replaced. They should be able to take it apart and replace just that part. However, getting that part may be difficult.

Let me know if I can help.

Joe
