Engine stalls

Just after starting the engine often the car will stall. When I am stopped at traffic lights, as a go to accelerate the car stalls. If I put the throttle to the floor, there is no acceleration and there is a weird noise as though the car doesn't know what gear to go in. Recently as I have been going to accelerate after stopping the traction control light flashes and I don't seem to have traction or power (it was raining)

I bought it off a mechanic who fixed the blown head gasket, replaced the cam sensor, fuel filter, oil, oil filter, spark plugs and leads.

I have recently replaced the air filter and the tires have plenty of tread. Help please.
