The car was scanned at the mechanic shop and codes for the ebtcm found. I was able to resume normal driving for a long time by simply turning off the traction control at the start of each trip. Recently, the car has begun having problems while driving down the road (tachometer gauge dropping and engine shuts off). I have to pull over turn the key off, then restart it. Usually, it starts back up right away, but sometimes it takes several attempts and even shows signs of power loss. could this be caused by the ebtcm? The traction control button is broken now so I have no way to disable it anymore. Still, I didn't think it sounded like the same problem yet there are no new codes either....

Hi,

I don't feel it is related to the EBCM. It sounds like either a fuel pressure-related issue or a loss of spark to the plugs which could be the result of a failing crankshaft position sensor. Either of these two problems may or may not set a diagnostic code.

First, take a look through this link. It describes the most common symptoms related to a failing crankshaft position sensor. See if you feel it mirrors what you experience.

Next, if that doesn't seem like a likely cause, you really should check the fuel pressure to see if it is within the manufacturer's specifications.

Here is a link that shows how it is done:

If you look at the attached pic below, I provided the manufacturer's fuel pressure specifications. You will need a fuel pressure gauge for this, but most parts stores will lend one to you.

Let me know your thoughts on the first link and also if you check the fuel pressure.

Take care,

Joe
