I've had a number of Toyota products over the years and like them. However, when the "Check ENG" light comes on, whether it's a Corolla, Nova, or Tercel, my mechanic says he needs the car for a half day, and charges me $35 just to do a "computer scan".
I suspect he's taking the car to the dealer and having THEM read the code for him.
How much should reading an ENG light cost?
Another shop says they'll service the "Check EGR" light for $50 by running a wire down the hose and clean out the sensor, repeating when necessary for free. Does this sound right, or safe?
I'm confused. Please advise on what appropriate.
